Ah!!! Silly me!!! I'll have to dig for my copy of Tempest. I just moved and everything is still in boxes. Once I find it I'll take a listen to it and get back to you with chords, keys and all of that.

Adam: I found my copy of Tempest and this is what I could come up with. The intro is based on four Chords: Dm - C - Gm and A. In typical flamenco fashion, Jesse is using the A phrygian mode for the melodies. The notes for this scale are A, Bb, C, D, E, F, G. This is the third degree of the F major scale. it does not sound like he is changing keys (the correct term is modulating), so if you are familiar with the fey of F major (F, G, A, Bb, C, D, E) you can pretty much tell where the song is going.
Sorry I could not be more specific. I listened to it a couple of times, but then I had to go somewhere. I hope this helps

Adam:
I think I might have inverted the A and G chords. I can't remember which one was Major and which one was minor. I did not have my guitar at hand when I wrote the post, I was going by memory. Given that the song is in F Major (I think...), it makes sense to assume that both of them are minor, but I definitely know that one of them is minor and the other Major. Give it a try and tell me if this helps.

Man, you really should get into music theory. It really opened up a lot of doors for me. Figuring things out became so much easier after I became aware of how music works. Especially when it came to improvisation. Once I knew a little about keys, chord/scale relations, and chord construction, things became quite clear to me. I was able to walk into jam sessions and as long as I knew the key and the chord progression the song was using I could lay down a solo on pretty much everything. I highly recommend exploring this side of music.

I know, I know, I want to, hopefully I'll have room in my schedule to take it next year....I don't know how much I could really learn on my own, studies are bogging me down
