Last night my wife and I attended the taping of the etown radio show at the Boulder Theater. (Same venue where we saw OL/Luna Negra on tour July 9, 2004.) It was a 2 hour event (no intermission) featuring performances and interviews with Ottmar Liebert and Eliza Gilkyson.
The show turned out to be even better than I expected! OL/Luna Negra ended up performing a total of 5 songs - which is more than they had anticipated having time for. Also, our view was even better than when we saw their concert back in July. Only person we couldn’t see quite as well was Ron because they had some big speakers at the front of the stage.
Anyway, it was interesting seeing how the show was conducted for a taping. First the hosts did their introductions then OL/Luna Negra came on for two songs. Then they interviewed Ottmar followed by another song. Then Eliza came on and they did the same thing with her. Then OL/Luna Negra came back for two more songs then Eliza came back out to wrap the show.
Keep tuning into the etown radio show because you won’t want to miss the interview with Ottmar! Ottmar told some stories about the early days of his career and his musical inspiration – his sense of humor really came across and had the audience laughing quite a bit! I’m not going to spoil it – but he also talked about being a “public figure” and specifically his presence on the Internet and blogging. I hope the entire interview gets aired! They never did announce the actual air date of the show - but said it will be in 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe Ottmar will get advanced notice and announce it on his blog.
As for the play list, they did exactly what Ottmar announced on his blog plus Snakecharmer (unfortunately no Kora intro though). It was just such a pleasure to get to see them again and hear the live versions of all those great songs! Of course they were awesome and the audience was highly enthusiastic in their response!
Only bummer of the night was that Ottmar didn’t come out to sign after the show. In fact, they didn’t have a merchandise table either – and I was hoping to pick up Jon’s CD – oh well, I’ll just order it. But the cool thing was I got to meet Robby! Just a quick chat – he was busy packing up his gear and I didn’t want to keep him.
Sorry, no pictures. Actually, I did take a picture of the stage setup before the show so might post that when my film comes back in ten years. Actually, I’m not even sure pictures were allowed – but I certainly wasn’t going to set off my big noisy SLR during the performance. (Adam Is So Sexy, I gotta get a digital camera!)
