There's an internet radio station I go to sometimes called Batanga. www.batanga.com Anyway, they have a Flamenco channel. Mostly you'll hear more traditional Flamenco on there, but I've also heard Ottmar, the Gypsy Kings, and other not so traditional artists. For a while they were playing Benedetti and Svoboda's version of the Adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez. Of course, that's Spanish classical - but I think one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written - and the Benedetti/Svoboda version is spectacular as a classical guitar duet! The Adagio is on their "Echos of Spain" album - their latest release. I bought it just for that but it turns out the album has a lot of beautiful music on it. Anybody out there have any of their earlier albums? You can sample their albums at Amazon - but that doesn't always give you a good idea. (Same goes for written reviews I guess.) How would I describe their style on this album? It's always hard to paint a good verbal picture. Rhumba/Flamenco/Classical. The music really features the two guitarists trading off the solo and rhythm parts - and they're both superb musicians. They even have Ron Wagner playing percussion on one of the tracks! I hope this is the same Ron Wagner of Luna Negra fame. (Anybody know how to find out? Ron, do you read this stuff?) Anyway, I think "Echos of Spain" is worth a listen and I'll be interested to see what these guys do next!

Sounds interesting, Boris, thanks! Probably the same RW And Concierto is among the best classical guitar pieces ever written, far and away...

Adam, you can call me whatever you want - I pretty much answer to any name that's not obscene. Should I wait by the mailbox for a commission from these guys? Anyway, looking back over my review it reads like something from a cheesy music magazine! Oh well, guess I'll stay out of journalism. By the way, another place on the internet to hear traditional flamenco is www.emisiondigital.com/ I believe this site is out of Spain - so brush up on your spanish before entering - though you won't have any problems finding the Flamenco channel.
