I own that Yamaha . I liked it over the Cordoba .. it has better action and it is brighter .. the Cordoba is nice but you will need to get it set up and it is warmer sounding ... it depends what you are looking for ... I made the trip to Guitar center to check them out ... nothing like playing it before you buy it .... Hope this helps .. Mark

Yeah, over Yamaha and the Cordoba, I'd pick the Yamaha. I played a few Cordoba's last weekend at Guitar Center and they didn't feel good at all. All the Yamaha's I've picked up, they've all felt and sounded good.
As I've been shopping over the last 4 years(!), I've come across some Esteve's and Rodriguez's (Manuel Rodriguez, not Rodriguez Guitars of Richmond, VA) within the $500-$800 price range. Both makers build models that are in all price ranges.
You may want to go into a music superstore (Mars/Musician's Friend or Guitar Center) to try out several of the guitars before buying them. Although I don't like music superstores, it may be your best bet in the area you live. Also, when going to these stores, you can talk them down to a lower price, since it's the norm to do so in the big retail stores. Never accept anything at a music superstore at "their" regular price.
Or I'm sure if you make it to Manhatten, there would be many shops you could go to, particularly in West or East Village.
Good luck!
