Well, folks, discussions are certainly dawning what this album is concerned, so here's the thread. I must admit that a Christmas album with a Opium feel in general would be nice. But can we expect that as a Christmas album? When you only knew Cocteau + Underworld, you were a bit misleaded what La Semana's atmosphere in total is concerned, so I don't think that OL is going to keep the Le Cafe vibe. But I hope he does, I hope! Sometimes I still ask myself what the silence in 1001 Silent Nights is. Okay, OL was joking. But how did he do it? Is it a digital silence coming out of a machine? Or did he close the doors to his studio cave + record the silence there? Anyway, I'm sure he'll use it as a hidden track on the new Christmas album... ;D

Boris, he probably just stop making noise and recorded it for a few minutes Also, Le Café could very well mislead us the way Cocteau and UnderWorld did...but while I love those songs, a whole album of them just wouldn't feel right, I need my beautiful OL ballads

I agree. I always enjoy when OL or any other band has ballads, they are always a nice digression.

I put this here, although not the upcoming Christmas album is meant.
Liz -- please tell Kiyomi how fabulous Christmas + Santa Fe is. She has made herself an own "Santa Feast/Christmas in June"-Compilation but only owns Poets + Angels (what the xmas records are concerned).

Ooooh, Liz, are you reading? Today (August 2nd) I received 2 CDs: Tschaikovsky's Nutcracker played by the Kirov Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, Ottmar Liebert's Christmas + Santa Fe. The later is for my friend's cafe. I'll keep it until the end of November. I got it quite cheap right now + couldn't resist! The ballet I always wanted to have as a whole recording, not only excerpts. A first thought: OL certainly could use the Chinese Dance ("Tea") and the Russian Dance ("Trépak") as Interludes, as he's usually creating such short pieces in between...

Hi, Boris! I am here, but not posting as much lately. It's great to see more new people posting stuff!
Sounds like you're having a great Christmas in August!
I actually was listening to some Nutcracker music just today. It is an abridged version, but it has all the songs my daughter really likes, so it serves it's purpose.
I do prefer Christmas + Santa Fe over Poets and Angels, but they are both great albums. I am SO excited for the new Christmas album! Le Cafe is my favorite song out of all the Nutcracker songs. And I agree that each of the songs from the prince and princesses' trip around the world (or the shows put on by the other countries, depending on the storyline) are great short segues into other OL originals. I liked the way he did that on the other two albums because the "old standard" was there in a recognizable form, but it had a new twist. It's hard to speculate what he will do with the new album. There are so many great Christmas songs! Fa-La-La-La-Laaaa! ;D

Guess you have all read OL's plans for 2005 what mostly is about touring (3 different times!) and about the new Christmas album. So at the same time he lets us know that this album will come out a year later than expected. Understandable regarding the many tasks OL puts upon himself. The plans he has for the album and probably adding a little holiday tour sound great. Liz, don't you think so? Kiyomi? A concert with mostly calm tunes, Christmas orientated. If this is getting concrete, I HAVE to see it. Such a concert won't happen again. Ah, sounds really exciting...

Boris -- It might be time to plan a trip to Santa Fe for this - assuming that he WILL play in Santa Fe, of course!

Hey, I do hope that OL puts his footsteps in the snow on the new holiday album. Not because I was credited in his blog but because that should sound amazing! And I'm still thrilled by snowflakes on pine needles or farolitos. I would love to capture that muffled sound a beautiful winter's night with fresh fallen snow has. Wonder if OL's taking some photos this year to include them next year. And I do wonder what songs he'll bring up besides Le Cafe. I'm thinking about sending him over some bavarian christmas songs but then, they are mostly played with trumpet, umpah umpah ... Hmm, hope he puts something in the Listening Lounge in about a month!

Wonder if there'll be a Limited Edition. ;D Regarding the fact that 1001 Christmas Nights will be OL's only album in 2005.

Since discussion + information has slowed down a bit due to blogging activities and the general knowledge of most participants here of Ottmar's own info service, we have so far failed to state that the title of the upcoming Christmas album will be "Winter Rose: Music inspired by the holidays".
Release date is October 11th, 2005.
